actually I'm back home in Szczecin -
after spending one week with my friend Monika AND visiting my daughter and having great times with my friends Angelika and Gaby. So many new ideas, good moments and heartwearming memories - THANK YOU friends

this journey had several personal highlights, one of them was the spectacular view from the 94th floor of the Hancock tower in Chicago. It's a breath-taking feeling to stand on a high of 304 Meter and to look down to the other really high buildings, in Germany so called "Wolkenkratzer".

To remember this special moments my roommate Annelore and I spend some $$ for this picture.

back from "Quilter's heaven"

Thank you for your patience, I'm back on earth - but haven't arrived in reality ;-) The trip was a dream, even the weather was very cooperative, just 1 and a half day rain

I haven't counted the quiltshops we stopped at, but I was able to find enough fabric for the very near future. My main interest in buying fabric was to start my taupe stash for the new Baby Jane. Now I need to order the background, it wasn't avaible, what I was looking for: a Buggy Barn fabric my friend Monika use.
I made many, many pictures - just safed them to a DVD

Firstable I want to show you my thank-you-present for my DH, who sponsored my journey very generous. It is a Log Cabin variation from Mishawaka (near South Bend), made ~1890-1910

I bought it in Shipshewana, Indiana from Rebecca Haarer (here with her mother) - this village is a very special place to me

this is Colleen how'll do the longarmquilting on Monika's French Braid. She did great work on several quilts from Monika, her friend and me in the past and we are sure to get good results again. It was fantastic to meet her again in person.

together with a generous sortiment of embroidery needles.

We talked on a Yahoo group about Redwork and I mourned about the missing possibily to buy needles here in Poland. She just offered to send some - for free

help needed

today I'ld like to ask my quilting readers for some help.

I interrupted my first Dear Jane project because I choose the wrong fabrics. I still love the colordiagram, but the Batics and the handdyed popeline (I dyd them) are too hard to sew by hand. Insider do know, there are a lot of the 169 blocks are perfect for handsewing. I prefer the Linda Franz method, but not with this fabrics. Don't think about the quilting. My nearly 50 blocks will end in the center of a medaillion.

In less than 3 weeks I'll be one of the lucky German ladies, traveling to the "motherland of quilting" the States: Washington, Pennsylvania (Lancaster: Quilter's Heritage Celebration), Virginia (Jinny Beyer studio), Shipshewana, Holmes County, Quilter's Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana, Millersburg, Chicago AND to the Int. Quilt Festival in Rosemont, Ill
I'll have more possibilties to buy new fabrics than my suitcase will take ;-)

But, I'l buy taupe, Japanese fabrics for a new Baby Jane

here comes the question:
which color may I take for the background ????????????????????

The little tiger has been adopted from "big" brother Alexander until Philipp is able to take care of him.

2nd Babyquilt

Retreat

Again you hat to wait too long ....

5 friends and I are back from a Retreat in Lauenbrück. http://www.ole-hoop.de/

It is an old farmers house in a little village (south from Bremen), reconstructed especially for a creative group up to 8 people. The best of all is the warmhearted owner couple and the great craftroom with optimal conditions for quilters, including irons, cuttingmats ......... Monica, Angelika, Gabi, Brigitte, Inge and I spent 3 days just sewing, laughing, talking - it was just GREAT. Needless to say: we made a reservation for February 2009!

stayed with us for one week and we had a little foto-ralley through the town

Here is a big cemetery in Szczecin,
there are only 2 in Europe bigger: Wien (Vienna/Austria) and Hamburg-Ohlsdorf. You can drive with the car on roads - I have no idea how many people are buried but its really huge with old trees. It was a very cold, wet day: looked great

Szczecin's best time was in around 1900 - 1920, there are many buildings with stucco and iron balcony railings, most of them in bad shape. But some are reconstructed already, we found this

Frohe Weihnachten - Merry Christmas

We celebrate a very harmonic, quiet Christmas,
just my DH, DD Ines, Nelli - the American Cocker and I
a real tree with real candles and electric once
the nativity scene was bought from my parents about 30 years ago,
I still love it

A lot of time was needed to open all the nice wrapped parcels, one after the other - this way each of us was able to see what we got and participate in the joy

A simple meal ( potatosalad with sausages ) in the evening - no stress - that's great

at the end two of us crashed on the sofa: Ines and Nelli

I hope you had a pieceful Christmas also

Xmas is coming

This is the decoration at the window I'm looking at while I sit at the screen .......... one handmade bear "peppermint lady" (with the hat) and an old Hermann bear, a present from a very special lady - she is gone for some years in the age of 79

Just in time today the first "snow" arrived, it is just like powder to give an idea of snow ..... this is the view from my studio. I have windows in three directions:

NORTH: garden vis a vis

SOUTH: our garden with neighborhood

EAST: our little street

Just in time - because of Christmas AND the arrival of my daughter. Ines just sit in the train and I'll pick her up in 1,5 hours !!!
