last trip to northern Germany

Last Thursday I came back from my last (hopefully) dentist trip to Northern Germany. I slept at Ulrike's home and got the final dentist work done on Tuesday. Wednesday I spent in Berlin, my former hometown. Luckily it was the right day to spend some time with my oldest friend Rita, who celebrated her Birthday. I'm glad she had some positive news in her life, because she is dealing some major health issues in her family. I visited Barbara in her shop and had a nice talk, at least I found some nice goodies as well.
I was very lucky, Claudia offered a bed for me. We know each other for a long time through our common interest: patchwork (you aren's surprised?)
We had a great evening and a lot of fun together. Next day I had to get up early, because she was going to have a bag-workshop.
SURPRISE: there she met 2 ladies I knew from my time in Szczecin!
Nadja is now living in Berlin and Katrin is from Ludwigsfelde (south of Berlin), she owned a Scrapbookingshop, maybe you remember our tours? Sad, I missed the ladies ...

Now I hope to stay at home for some time. Our move isn't finished right now, there are several boxes of books still to unpack and dishes and kitchenstuff.

During my trip I was lucky to spend 2 weeks with my friend Monika. She offered her guestroom for me and a Bali Pop! So we made two identical bags - go visit her blog, her picture is much nicer

addition to my sewing studio

After traveling for 5 weeks, mainly to have some major dentist work done ( which isn't finished right now ) I'm back home for 2 weeks now.
Yesterday we spent some time at a local flea market and see what we found:

a new addition to my sewing studio, filled with old goodies
I think it's made during the fifties or sixties, nearly the same age than me ;-)

Some months ago I asked on a Yahoo Group for help to get a special issue of an American Magazine. Carrie (no blog) offered to help the same day. AND she offered to shop for me anytime in the states, what she did now, again BTW. Glad to have such a nice witch, YES I called her my shopping witch, because she lead me into temptation several times - smile
Actually she is in Paducah at the big AQS Show and once more she is hunting for some goodies for me. Would love to be there on my own, but that wasn't possible.

Today her last envelope arrived with the fabric I choose for the triangles of my Baby Jane


She spoiled me with some EXTRAs:
stamps and lovely Label fabric, including a very pretty "friends" magnet

Easter present from Monika

This year my best friend Monika surprised me with a (nearly) complete quilt. Couldn't believe it: it's called "bestest friends"










I love it, there was just some quilting needed and it is done, ready to get a nice place.

Schnibbles spools

I got a nice pattern for spools and remembered the folded spools I teached moons ago. The quilt I'm sewing for me is in the quilting phase, but the little wallhanging for my personal shopping witch Carrie arrived the new owner yesterday, so I can show the picture here:

finished UFOs

While I'm prepairing my traveling (starting next week) I'm making lists: what to pack for the Retreat, the time at my friend Monika's home and the time at Ulrike's house. I searched through my drawers to find my UFOs at first and the list was growing and growing. NO, I don't tell you how many I count actually -
BUT I started to make the final stitches on 2 projects. Here comes the first:

it is a paperpieced top, I got from Monika - long time ago, shame on me
But now it's ready to find a nice spot on the wall - DANKESCHöN Moni, und bitte verzeih, dass es sooooo lange gedauert hat.

BTW:
the second UFO is handquilted and the binding is just to sew by hand on the backside. Insider (Monika) knows: I hate it .... but you'll see the result soon

decluttering - Gerümpel des Alltags

I'm part of a little, private Yahoogroup with friends I made during my trip to the Dear Jane Retreat in Shipshewana, Indiana 2oo5. Most of us are horters, people who can use EVERYTHING and STORE EVERYTHING or nearly everything - at least too much. So decluttering is once more the theme. Some time ago I read a German Book about this. Today Barb wrote:

I tried several light situations ( with/without daylight, sun, shadow ) to get the real colors .... nothing came near the original

YES, I made some progress on my WiP this weekend. I hoped to make more, but DH had an accident while doing some electric work, so the remodeling took some time -
the good news is: he is well ( more or less )

this wavy striped border will finish with just o,5 inch - otherwise it's to busy for me. Now on to decide which green for the outer border ....
After dinner I hope to get the next/final border done

spools and folded BOW TiES

Yesterday I discussed with Rosa the possibilities of a spool pattern and told her of the folded variation. Today I googled and found several good instructions, so I don't want to make my own - just showing pictures to give you an impression.





I love patterns, but I can't help, I have to give them always a personal touch with a small variation:

my longdistance project is my Baby Jane
The background fabric is designed by Buggy Barn (Creamery Neutrals II) and the focus fabrics are taupe japanese fabrics I collected during my quiltjourney through 3 different Amish Counties in 2oo8. We went to 2 big shows: in Lancaster and Rosemont as well - good places to start a new collection ;-)

A friend overseas sent me a lovely pattern,which is ideal for new sewingstudio. I have violet accents there and want to add a little wallquilt coordinating. This is the beginning:
